The message behind Healthy Weight Week

Yes, there is something called Healthy Weight Week.I missed it. It was last week. I think I was spending too much time worrying about my weight.
As I think about it, I haven't been at a healthy weight since I had to quit running and began taking prednisone regularly for my asthma. I struggle like many, but I eat pretty healthy and keep on trying despite barriers with medical problems. It seems like everyone I run into is preoccupied with dieting and losing weight to make up for the holidays, but then they end up eating larger portions and anything they want anyway. When the weight comes off, it often goes right back with the return to old eating habits.I also think Healthy Weight Week is misnamed. It should be Healthy Eating Week because many of us don't have a healthy weight. But I like the message of Healthy Weight Week shift focus from diets and pills to health and wellness. The Coulee Region Childhood Obesity Coalition passed along these great ideas to help us think more about health, wellness and lifestyle changes:Stop dieting and focus instead on eating healthier.

A Leaner Bagel Option

After shedding 212 pounds and 14 dress sizes over two years, Shelton resident Kim Bensen knew she'd finally put 25 years of yo-yo dieting behind her in favor of a solid commitment to healthy living. This she also knew: Boy, did she miss a bagel. So she decided to make her own light version.

Lose Weight, Gain Health -- with 'Finding Your True Self' Workshop

Ilchi Lee (http://www.ilchi.com) points to "mindset" as the key to why people are prone to being overweight, and are easily defeated when trying to slim down. He recommends Dahn Yoga's (http://www.dahnyoga.com) self-discovery workshop, "Finding Your True Self," for people with weight issues who want to switch from their ego's "fat and unhealthy" mindset, to their true self's "thin and fit" mindset. Combined with exercise and dieting, this workshop can release the negative thoughts and emotions contributing to the excess weight, and instead enhance self-esteem to shed pounds and keep them off.

Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) January 28, 2008 -- "'Mindset' plays a key (although often unconscious) role in gaining, losing and keep excess weight off," believes Ilchi Lee (http://www.ilchi.com), president of the University of Brain Education (South Korea).

hot January diet crazes

The old cliché has it that two things in life are inevitable, death and taxes, but there is a third, perhaps one that rouses even deeper concern among Americans, the January diet.

Dieting, being at least as trendy as Parisian fashion, each year brings new wrinkles, so to speak, and this January has brought us two.

Raw is big, and way out front is the Hallelujah diet, promoted by the Rev. George Malkmus, as a biblically inspired weight-loss system that emphasizes the curative powers of raw foods. Malkmus, a graduate of the Elohin Bible Institute in New York, claims he himself licked colon cancer by following what he says was the original diet God handed down to man (Genesis 1:29). The Hallelujah diet was the most-searched term in the last week of 2007, presumably much of that from evangelicals, whom Malkmus targets with his pitch for the diet and various health supplements he sells.

Tesco Encourages Convenient Dieting

In an effort to encourage customers to spend their dieting dollars (or to lose bodily and monetary pounds as may be more relevant in the UK) on Tesco products, the supermarket has linked up with website ediets.com in a New Year's promotion. Do you think supermarkets in the U.S. should be much more heavily involved in encouraging shoppers to think more about what they buy and eat?
