| GMCT heavyweight division loses some luster
Two of the area's best heavyweights will not compete in the Greater Middlesex Conference Wrestling Tournament, dramatically impacting that weight class and the overall scoring in what is expected to be the tightest team race in years. Dan Walker transfered out of Edison High School on Monday and NJSIAA assistant director Bob Baly said Monday that Perth Amboy's Joel Perez is ineligible to compete in the GMCT following his disqualification from Saturday's match at Delaware Valley. Edison High School Athletics Director Jim Muldowney confirmed Walker was moving out of district but said he did not know which school Walker would be attending. Attempts to reach Walker were unsuccessful. Unbeaten in conference and owner of an 18-1 record, Walker would have been the top seed at heavyweight for the GMCT, which begins Friday at Piscataway High School.

Ri-Generation Nutrition
Ri-Generation Nutrition health food store owners Nathan Broumley and Roxanne Magnus opened at a new location at 12812 Old Glenn Highway in Fire Lake Plaza Dec. 28. Broumley said they relocated the store from its former location above Greatland Christian Cache to expand what they offer and to make it easier for customers to access. "We needed a bigger location, and we wanted a location that was more accessible to people who can't walk up the stairs," he said, in regards to the store's previous second floor location. He said the store's new location is much larger as well, which will allow them to incorporate more items, such as food, into the items they sell. Broumley said business has been going well since the store originally opened about 10 months ago. "Even though we weren't in a very visible or accessible location, we did enough business to enable us to expand quite a bit," he said.
Initiatives target Knox govt.
A government reform effort formed in response to the past year's Knox County government controversies is asking County Commission to place nine charter amendments before voters in August, with a pledge to put the items on the ballot through a citizen petition drive if commissioners say no. Among proposed amendments, the group wants voters to have more direct influence over a smaller commission; wants to prohibit county employees from serving on commission; and wants the next county mayor and commission to select administrators for tax collections, motor vehicle registrations and other functions that are currently overseen by independently elected officeholders. The 64-member Knox Charter Petition steering committee planned to send a letter today to commissioners with its requests.
